Many years ago, before people built dams to keep crocodiles away, there was a special place in Egypt where people worshipped a crocodile god named Sobek. This place was called the Fayoum Oasis and it looked like a big leaf on a map. It was located near the beautiful Nile River.
It's a special place in Egypt. Something happened there a long time ago. It used to have a big lake with lots of water, but over time, the water started to go away. The people who lived there had to make changes to their environment to keep their homes and farms. They built canals to bring water from the Nile River to the Faiyum so that they could still have enough water for their crops. It was a big challenge, but the people worked together to find a solution. What happened to the Faiyum?
The oldest cafe in Cairo, called El Fishawy, has been owned and run by the same family since 1773.
