There is more than a building inside the Citadel but the most recognized among them is the Alabaster mosque of Mohamed Ali which was built in the same style as the Ottoman mosques built in Istanbul, and its layout is square in shape, with a side length of 41 meters. It is covered in the center by a large dome with a diameter of 21 meters and a height of 52 meters. The Citadel continued major development during the following 700 years since it was built by the famous Sultan Saladin, especially during the Mamluk Sultanate. it has been proclaimed by UNESCO as part of the world heritage site in 1976 and opened to the public officially in 1983.
